Sinners also do good deeds, but this doesn’t mean they live according to God’s commandments and will fall into the Kingdom of Heaven. 
Such deeds, which are performed in enmity with God, of course, are not pleasing to Him. This is how the Old Testament says about it:
“Why do I need your multitude of sacrifices? says the Lord. I am satiated with the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle, and I do not want the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. When you come to appear before Me, who requires you to trample My courts? (Isa. 1: 11-13).
Any good deed should be done in the name of the Lord. A person striving to do good deeds should seek in them the glory of God, and not his own. It is important to remember that God looks at a person’s heart, not at his actions.
If you have done a good deed and have been praised for it, you should not attribute this praise to yourself. By this you will blaspheme the name of God. The Apostle John wrote that we ourselves can sin and not sin, but we cannot do good without Him.
Alms, patience and other good deeds can be discredited if done out of vanity. Any good deed must be done for God’s sake. Even a good deed can become sinful if the intention is impure.
